Favàritx Lighthouse

The lighthouse is located on Favàritx headland. It is one of the best known on the island, both for its distinctive white tower with a black spiral line, and for the stunningly wild setting. Surrounded by imposing slate cliffs in an unequalled landscape, it is well worth visiting, as it is singularly different to the other lighthouses of the island.

It was built in 1922, using rock from a nearby quarry. The scenery surrounding Favàritx is stunning whatever the weather conditions, whether on beautiful sunny days or wet and windy days.

There is a fenced off pond, Cós des Síndic, by the roadside leading to the lighthouse. This is a natural vernal or temporary pool of great ecological value, formed when there are storms or heavy rainfall, so it is not always the same size. The other lighthouses do not have similar formations so close to the sea.

Favàritx lighthouse can be reached by a delightfully long ramble, or by car or bike. It is not very far from the long distance path Camí de Cavalls that goes along this stretch of the coastline. Near the lighthouse is the path Camí Vell de Favàritx that leads to Presili and Tortuga beaches, two of Menorca’s coves that are not to be missed.
